What to expect when setting your own rate

Updated over a week ago

Working on the Elder platform is all about choice and control. You are at the heart of our platform, and we want to ensure that Elder remains your first choice for finding self-employed care work.

We’ve listened to your feedback, we’ve made some exciting changes to enable you to set your own pay rates when applying for work.

Here’s what you can expect with setting your own rate. Please note, this feature will only be available on some new placements. For those on ongoing placements, this feature is not available to you yet.

  1. Review new turquoise placement adverts

  • For some new placements, you will now be asked to set your own pay rate as part of your application. This will be made clear within the placement advert and will be displayed in a turquoise banner to differentiate from placements with a fixed rate.

  • We encourage you to take the time to ensure you understand the placement specifications, and are comfortable with the duties outlined in the Care Profile. Consider your skills and the specific details of the placement, and craft a quote that reflects your experience and strengths.

2. Set your rate & apply

  • Be in control of your earnings and set your own rate for each placement. Slide to select a rate that reflects your experience and strengths, and the requirements of the placement. You will need to move the slider, you will not be able to click 'save' and submit your application without moving the slider and selecting a pay rate.

  • We’ll show you the average and range of other applicants for that placement to help you make an informed decision on how to set your rate.

  • You should be able to see the weekly rate as well as a prorated daily rate. You will be able to see a breakdown of your earnings, including any add-ons such as food budget, car allowance and bonuses. Please note: any bonuses are calculated in the first payment summary.

3. Track your application

  • Once you apply, track your submitted applications through the Elder Hub on Placements page.

  • Elder will confirm by email if you have been selected by the client. This process typically takes a few days. Please wait for confirmation from Elder before making any arrangements for the placement.

Elder expects carers to apply for placements only if they are available and committed to attend if selected. If your placement application is successful, we will expect you to attend as planned. If you are unable to commit to a placement after applying, you should contact the office as soon as possible so that we can make alternative arrangements for care.

Please note that even if you have been reserved, our Clinical Team will need to approve the Care Profile for you to start chatting and get selected for the placement to go ahead.
