As an introductory care marketplace we cannot monitor, manage, or direct care.
โ
Whilst on placement, you can support a care recipient to self administer medication by prompting, reminding and helping remove medicines from packaging.
As Elder are unable to direct, monitor or manage medication administration you should consult the prescriber to ensure they are satisfied that the medication will be administered correctly by a carer, just as you would do if you yourself were going to be taking on this role.
However, please note that you are prohibited from administering the following on a placement through the Elder platform:
Controlled drugs
Injections
Suppositories
Pessaries
Enemas
All controlled drugs, which are subject to strict controls under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001, self-employed on the Elder's platform are prohibited from administering controlled drugs.
Prior to the commencement of a placement, the Clinical Team at Elder conducts a thorough assessment of the Care Profile to confirm the presence of support for medication administration, particularly for restricted items such as controlled drugs, injections, suppositories, pessaries, and enemas.
