Do I have to be a driver to work on the Elder Platform?

Updated over 4 months ago

Some clients need a self-employed carer who can drive them to local events or appointments. These placements will generally require a carer to bring their own car, however some may simply need a carer who holds a valid driving licence so that they can use the client or customer’s car.

All placements with a driving requirement are clearly stated within the placement advert.

Car requirement

Placements that require carers to bring their own car are paid an enhancement of £50 per week, which is added to the weekly rate. It’s important to ensure the following before applying for these placements:

  • Your driving license is valid and has been sent to Elder

  • Your vehicle has the correct business insurance for you to drive it, and for the client to be a passenger

  • Your vehicle is safe to drive

  • You are happy to use your own car to drive the client during the placement

Driving licence requirement only

Placements that require self-employed carers to have a valid driving licence are paid an enhancement of £25 per week, which is added to the weekly rate. Carers will need to drive the care recipient in the car provided at the placement.

Ongoing enhancements will be added to the weekly rate (shown on the left-hand side of a placement advert). Enhancements will be reflected in your earnings summaries. You can find more information on payments here.

Please note that you are responsible for any parking fines or traffic violations committed whilst providing driving services.
