Caring can be tough, plan ahead to give yourself breaks away from placement

Updated over 2 months ago

Whether you’re a primary or respite carer, it’s important to take some time away from placements every so often. This helps to ensure that you are physically and mentally rested when delivering person-centred care.

Whilst on placement, you can quickly book your break away from placement, to do this:

  1. Head to the home screen of the ElderHub, find the relevant placement and choose ‘Book your Break’

  2. Enter your dates of your break

  3. Once submitted, you’ll be able to view your planned break in the ‘schedule’ tab.

Please ensure you have discussed your plans with your customer before booking a break, including the date your time away from placement starts and the date you will return.

To ensure we can help the customer arrange for another carer to take over during your break, we require you to notify your customer and Elder about breaks at least one week in advance.

We understand that this isn't always possible to give the required notice due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event that you do need to change your break at short notice after informing your customer you should reach out to us via Chat and provide us with the dates and reason why you're taking a break at such short notice.

If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to send us a message via Chat and our support team will be happy to assist.

You can also begin planning your work schedule when applying for placements. Our scheduling function allows you to state your preferred work schedule along with your placement application.

Learn more about the scheduling function here.
