We recommend against handling a client or customer’s money.

When on placement, you may be responsible for helping with shopping or other activities which involve finances, it is important that you keep an up-to-date, accurate log of money spent. Best practice includes keeping all receipts and accounting for monies in and out. You should never transact with large sums of money or use a Client or other family member’s own debit or credit cards. This protects both you and your Client should queries arise. It is safest to use prepaid cards, top-up cards with low balances, or small manageable sums of petty cash.

You should never give your PIN number to anyone or let them give you theirs. If a customer or client asks you to use their credit or debit card, please explain that you are unable to do this.
